Youngham Lee, choral conductor, believes that he serves as a direct bridge to deliver messages and connect music to audiences through his musical interpretation and conducting.
Lee began his musical career by studying music composition at Kyunghee University, South Korea, where he earned his Bachelor of Music. He later dreamed of becoming a choral conductor after being inspired by a music director who taught his choir class. At his senior recital, Lee debuted as a choral conductor, conducting his own choral work, “Greetings of Love.”
Lee also served as an officer, band director, and military choir director for three years in the Republic of Korea Army, 28th Division. He developed his leadership skills by programming more than 20 concerts every year, organizing various genres of music, and training band and choir members until he left military service as a first lieutenant.
In 2012, Lee came to the United States to broaden his musical horizons. As artistic director, he has presented sacred choral music with the Chicago Christian Chorale (a 45–50-voice community choir), including works such as Messiah(Handel), Gloria (Vivaldi), Missa Brevis & Coronation Mass (Mozart), Nelson Mass (Haydn), and Gloria and Magnificat(John Rutter) since 2016.
Lee earned his Master of Music in Choral Conducting at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He served as the director of Alta Voce Singers (a 45–50-voice entry-level soprano-alto choir) and as an assistant director for Concert Chorale (a 40–50-voice advanced SATB choir), Bella Voce (a 24–32-voice advanced soprano-alto choir), and Kameraden Chorus (a 40–60-voice entry-level tenor-bass choir).
Currently, Youngham Lee is a Worship Director at Northfield Presbyterian Church in Wheeling IL, and he serves as Director of Choirs at Beloit College, where he directs the Beloit Chamber Singers (an auditioned choir) and the Beloit College & Community Choir (a non-auditioned student-community mixed choir). He also directs the Claritas Master Chorale at the University of St. Francis as Director of Choral Activities.
